The City of Geneva has recently redeveloped their mission and vision statements for the future of the city. One of the areas in which the city has struggled in the past has been the communication between citizens and the local government. In the fall of 2009 the City Manager of Geneva approached the HWS community in hopes of finding a student who could research ways in which the local government could improve communication channels. This researcher studied other town governments and their communications departments in order to better understand what was needed here in Geneva. This research resulted in the formation of a Geneva Communications Department to begin in early 2010, and to be managed by HWS students. The researcher has learned about town government management, local marketing, communications with local leaders, and has improved his skills in human relations.
