Cletus Johnson

Abiding Art + Architecture

November 7 through December 5, 2014
Reception: Friday, November 7, 6:00 to 8:00 pm
Gallery talk at 6:30 pm

Making his entrance into the art scene in 1974, Cletus Johnson's theaters and collage assemblages engage multi-faceted realities of the imagination. With critical eyes focused on dismissed truths, a language derived from forgotten and fragmented materials and places confronts ideas of isolation and nostalgia. Through poetics and encapsulated melancholy, each composition, in its dreamlike state, gives way for the viewer to interpret and speculate into its layers both evident within Mr. Johnson's creative process and as spatial manifestations. Curated by Gabriella D'Angelo, Assistant Professor of Architectural Studies.
