Know yourself

An interview is an opportunity to market yourself to the interviewer.  You should be able to speak about your:

  • Goals
  • Skills
  • Experiences
  • Personal traits
  • Interest in the position/organization

Know the organization

Make sure to research the company beforehand and also the position. Here are some important areas to research that will help set you apart from your competition:

  • Learn about the industry
  • Understand the market
  • Know the specific organization—size, mission, philosophy, job or grad program components, management style, products/services offered

Before the interview

  • Look at the organization’s website! Read the material that they have posted
  • Use the Career Services office to see if we have any connections with the organization that you can speak with ahead of time
  • Participate in a mock interview with a Career Counselor in order to understand and prepare for various questions that could be asked so that you  become better prepared
