As the figures below illustrate, the final fundraising results for the 2008-2009 fund year reflect the changed economic climate. However, we are encouraged by the year-to-date results from the first three months of the current fund year, 2009-2010.
Since July, we have added $6.6 million in commitments to Campaign for the Colleges. Our strategic outreach to alumni, alumnae, parents and friends early in this fund year has emphasized the critical flexibility that Annual Fund gifts provide in the Colleges’ operating budget, particularly in terms of our financial aid response to our students. As a result, an increased number of donors, 1,115 compared to 719 year-to-date, have responded with gifts totaling slightly higher than the same time a year ago, when the first effects of the crumbling economy were realized. In the months ahead we will be unrelenting in our commitment to secure the resources that advance the institution and assure its continuing strength.
