Director of Recreation, Intramurals and Fitness
Russ Hess has managed the Hobart and William Smith Sport and Recreation Center since 2000, emphasizing wellness and fitness to the Colleges' community. Besides maintaining the facility, Hess provides wellness-centered programming, including weekly group exercise classes ranging from martial arts and step aerobics to kick boxing and stability ball workouts, various contests that combine exercise and nutritional elements for students, as well as speakers on diet and nutrition, office ergonomics, Pilates, stress management and massage. He also teaches first aid and CPR training sessions, and oversees the intramural recreation program.
Assistant Director of Recreation, Intramurals and Fitness
Rob Fields has worked at the Hobart and William Smith Sport and Recreation Center since 2010. Fields works closely with each area of the Colleges' recreation program. Primarily, he is involved with evening and late night events including intramural sports and evening fitness classes, and oversees the main floor and fitness center. Fields earned a master’s degree in recreation from SUNY Cortland and holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the SUNY Potsdam. Originally from Liverpool, N.Y., Rob now resides in Geneva with his wife and their dog, Griswold.
