Student Activities strives to offer a comprehensive calendar of exciting programs and trainings for the entire student body. Our staff provides guidance and advice to several student groups which are listed to the right.
The Office of Student Activities works hard to make Orientation one of the best weekends of a student’s experience at HWS. Each year the Office hires student Orientation Coordinators from each College as well as a robust staff of Orientation Leaders and Orientation Mentors. Look for information during the Spring semester each year to find out how you can be involved in this terrific weekend of welcome!
The Fall Involvement Expo on the Quad is your one stop shop for campus involvement activities. This year we featured 110 clubs, student organizations, and campus departments at the event; it’s not one to miss!
The Student Leader Summit (SLS) is brand new and offers executive board members of each club or student organization a full day of learning, sharing, and connecting to be the get the most out of their experience as a club leader.

Our office loves Homecoming and Family Weekend! Events not to miss during this fabulous weekend include Quad-a-Palooza, CABaret, Barnburner BBQ, and Fall Nationals! This year Homecoming went mobile- search the Guidebook App for HWS Homecoming to get a taste of what the weekend is like!
We know how important it is to have fun on the weekends; in collaboration with Residential Education, the Office of Student Activities features a fun event every Friday night at 9pm. The first Friday of the month, Friday Flix, always offers a great movie whether it’s outdoors on the Quad or down the road at the Geneva Movieplex! The After Dark Series is the perfect way to spend your Friday night, featuring late night activities for the students, by the students!
Looking to get off campus for a bit? Student Activities and Intercultural Affairs have just the thing for you- the Road Trip Series! Each semester, an exciting calendar of road trips is put together just for you. Attend a Buffalo Bills football game, go apple picking at a local orchard, or see Wicked in downtown Rochester!

Possibly the best part of winter at HWS is the Bristol Lawn Ice Rink! When the weather is just right, our outdoor ice rink freezes to create a winter wonderland right on Bristol Lawn; don’t worry, we’ve got skates for you! Winterpalooza occurs in early February and offers hot cocoa, s’mores, horse-drawn carriage rides, live ice sculpting, and of course, lots of skating!
Get the scoop each and every week, twice! The Weekly Buzz and Weekend Highlights are Student Activities publications that go out to the entire campus twice a week highlighting everything that’s happening on and off campus!
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is advised out of the Office of Student Activities and offers an array of great programming from their popular Open Mic Nights in the Cellar Pub, to Hot Air Balloon rides on the Quad, CAB is always there to provide awesome entertainment to the student body!

William Smith Congress, Hobart Student Government, and the Budget Allocations Committee are staples of the Office of Student Activities. They are the voice for the student body and provide crucial support to the countless student organizations and clubs on campus. The Herald is the student run newspaper for Hobart and William Smith Colleges. It features regular publications in print and online- it’s a great way to stay up to date on all that is HWS while hearing the thoughts and opinions of your peers! Read The Herald Online here.
The Office of Student Activities chairs the Concert Advisory Committee, a group of trained students who help choose, plan, and execute all of the large concerts on campus! Ben Folds, Passion Pit, Chiddy Bang and Hoodie Allen, and We the Kings are just a few of the awesome artists featured in the past. Concerts take place in the Field House, at the Smith Opera House, and sometimes outdoors on the Quad!
Just as we love to welcome new students to campus, our office loves to help send our seniors off right with an entire week of fun programming just for seniors ending with a memorable Commencement ceremony and weekend.
