Lima, Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Machu Picchu & Cuzco

May 6 – 14, 2011

Come and join your fellow HWS community members for an exciting cultural and culinary tour of Peru in May 2011! We have organized an 8-night 9-day trip to Peru especially for HWS alumni, alumnae and parents. You will be personally escorted by Scott McKinney, HWS Professor of Latin American Studies and Economics, as well as several local guides. The tour includes Lima, Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Machu Picchu and Cuzco. Meals at fine restaurants are included to allow you to experience the best of Peruvian cuisine. We hope you will join us for this Peruvian adventure!

Tour Leader

Scott McKinney, HWS Professor of Latin American Studies and Economics, who has extensive expertise on Peru, will lead the tour. Professor McKinney was born in Peru and lived there until he came to the U.S. to attend Middlebury College. He returned to Peru in 1989 on a Fulbright Scholarship and taught at two universities during his placement. Professor McKinney has general research interests in Latin America, and has led the HWS semester-long study abroad program in Ecuador as well as a combined Ecuador/Peru program. On this trip, he will provide general historical background on the sites visited and will lead you on an exploration of Peru’s unique cuisine.

Cost: $2445 per person for double occupancy; $3115 per person for single occupancy

Accommodations for 8 nights in 3 and 3.5 star hotels (2 nights in Lima; 3 nights in Ollantaytambo; 1 night in Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu area; 2 nights in Cuzco)

Airfare from the U.S. to Lima (a non-stop group flight has been arranged from Newark to Lima for those who wish to take advantage of this – click here and scroll down the page to get to the Peru flight info

Deadline for deposit: A deposit of $740 per person for double occupancy and $930 for single occupancy is due by August 16, 2010. You may pay by credit card or check. You will find an option to pay by credit card on the registration form.

Group flight: We have arranged a non-stop group flight through Advantage Travel of Central New York for a fare of $777 roundtrip from Newark to Lima (this includes all taxes and fees). This is in addition to the program costs mentioned above. Advantage Travel can also book connecting flights for you to Newark if you are originating elsewhere.
