Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies

The biggest news from LGBT Studies this semester is that we have hired Cael Keegan into a 2-year position. Cael is the first person at HWS hired into an LGBT position. While having a broad ability to discuss all the major issues in this emerging discipline, his specialties include work on Trans* issues and LGBT representation in the mass media.

Lisa Patti's spring 2013 publication activities include: co-editing "Teaching (with) Social Media" - Cinema Journal/Teaching Media (Winter/Spring 2013), writing the co-authored book Film Studies: A Global Introduction (forthcoming 2014), completing an essay on the film L'Avventura for The Routledge Encyclopedia of Film (forthcoming 2014), and publishing a review of Screen Dynamics: Mapping the Borders of Cinema in Film International (11:1). On campus, she presented "Loving Movies Online: Cinephilia in the Age of New Media" at the Friday Faculty Lunch, and in May she will present work from her fall 2012 course "Stars and Avatars" at the Community Engaged Scholarship Forum.
