The German Area Studies Program has had a very busy year. Apart from cultural activities, including the German film series and cultural presentations by our Fulbright FLTA, Jessica Diebowski, we have been active in preparing and sending students to Germany. Two students, Andrew Hellmund and Yuqi Ge, are participating in the Berlin Lexia program, a course of study focusing on architecture in Berlin and around Europe. The other two students, Will Holstrom and Vincent Puleo, are taking classes at the University of Bremen and the University of Koblenz-Landau, Landau Campus respectively. Next year the program will send a total of seven students to Germany, three for the entire year. The most exciting news, however, just recently arrived: Silene Binkerd-Dale, William Smith ‘12, was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Award for 2013-2014 to Germany, and Devan Mizzoni, ’13 was designated an alternate for the Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Germany as well. Both students were Blocker Fellows last year and we are thrilled to have such gifted and motivated students involved in the program.
