Cashier/Operational Support Clerk
The College Store

SUMMARY:

Cashier: Responsible for all cashier activities, cashier training, processing Bookstore Student Charge Account payments, and frond-end operations in assistance to, or absence of, General Book Manager or his/her delegate.
Operational Support Clerk: Provide support to bookstore departments and bookstore operations. Assist, under guidance and direction from departmental managers/coordinators, in preparing product for sales floor, restocking merchandise, and assisting in all areas of departmental operations; receiving, pricing, inventory, stocking, filing, preparing mailings.
Data Entry: Provide data entry support to bookstore departments and bookstore operations. Assist, under guidance and direction from departmental managers/coordinators, with data entry specific to inbound and outbound product, inventory management, and inventory structure changes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cashier

  • Accurate processing of all sales, returns, payments, and related tenders.
  • Execute front-end operational procedures.
  • Process Bookstore Student Charge Account payments.
  • Monitor practices and outcomes for fraud and theft.
  • Provide cashier training.
  • Provide excellent customer service.

Operational Support

  • Prepare product for sales floor.
  • Restock merchandise as needed.
  • Assist with departmental operations: receiving, pricing, inventory, stocking, filing, preparing mailings.
  • Provide excellent customer service.

Data Entry

  • Assist with data entry specific to inbound and outbound product.
  • Assist with departmental, class, and SKU structure changes.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory control data.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma and proven related retail experience required. Associate’s degree in business administration with a minimum of 2 years experience preferred. Working knowledge of computerized accounting and inventory management systems, AS400 mainframe with retail inventory control software preferred. Experience in data entry, MicroSoft Word and Excel essential. Must be able to effectively deal with students, faculty, and the public. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills necessary. Must exhibit high degree of self-motivation and flexibility. Position requires limited amounts of lifting (up to 70 pounds), with significant amounts of standing, stair climbing, walking, and bending.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a Grade 15, full-time, 12 month, benefits-eligible, hourly position within the Collective Bargaining Unit, with a starting hourly wage of $12.12. Standard work schedule is 37.5 hrs/wk for 40 weeks (Academic Year) and 30 hrs/wk for 12 weeks (Summer). Schedule for the academic year will be Monday – Friday, 8:30am–5pm. Summer hours will be scheduled accordingly. Additional hours required at the beginning of each semester, special events, and holidays. This position description is not all inclusive and includes other tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
