Responsibilities:

A summer intern in the HWS Admissions Office will experience a variety of responsibilities, including marketing and promoting Hobart and William Smith by being a tour guide, student interviewer for prospective students, and helping to coordinate on-campus events such as Open Houses. These students will introduce the Colleges' campus, curriculum, and programs to prospective students and their families. The summer intern may also be assigned general office tasks such as answering phones, running errands, special projects and helping with mass mailings. All interns are expected to assist with special events, including weekend programs. Responsibilities can include: Marketing Hobart and William Smith Colleges by communication through email, phone, social media, and traditional mailings; Touring prospective students and families around campus, answering questions and helping with requests; Providing students with information and assistance regarding admissions application procedures and timelines, and establishing a continuum of personalized communication with prospective candidates; Assisting with on-campus interviewing of prospective students on a regularly scheduled basis; Assisting with outreach to prospective students; Participating in on-campus admissions events; Assisting staff with regional and functional duties as requested; Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances of students
  • Demonstrate a firm knowledge of the Colleges' educational philosophy and mission.
  • Be detail focused and highly reliable (at work on-time or call in advance)
  • Be flexible and adaptable
  • Be able to problem-solve, work independently and efficiently
  • Be familiar with HWS campus, programs, services, departments, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 semester of residency at HWS or in Geneva
  • Energetic, positive attitude
  • Experience in sales
  • Demonstrate a genuine desire to help others: people-friendly, respectful, willing to go the extra mile to help folks find answers to questions, give accurate directions.
