POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assistant Swimming Coach (part-time)
Department of William Smith Athletics

SUMMARY:

Responsible for introducing and teaching advanced swimming skills and techniques as directed by the head coach. The Assistant Coach will collaborate with the head coach to prepare, implement and evaluate daily practices, assist with home meet pool set up and tear down, and will supervise and mentor student-athletes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate competency in sport skill instruction, motivation, and the ability to conduct safe practice sessions.
  • Adhere to all sport governing, departmental, and institutional rules and policies.
  • Prepare, implement and evaluate daily practices in collaboration with the head coach.
  • Assist with home meet pool set up and tear down.
  • Assist with recruiting prospective student-athletes as directed by the head coach.
  • Demonstrate a sincere interest in the personal, academic and athletic progress of student-athletes.
  • Exhibit supportive and cooperative behavior pursuing sport program goals set by the head coach.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability and professional behavior when dealing with student-athletes.
  • Efficiently and effectively complete tasks assigned by the head coach.
  • Accept constructive criticism and work toward consistent professional improvement.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the department and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks and respect for the competencies of others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Must hold a current CPR/First Aid certification. Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of swimming technique and have competitive swimming or coaching competitive swimming experience.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a part-time, five-month, six days a week/four hours per day, non-benefits-eligible administrative position. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
