

The newly established Crossing Boundaries project at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology is seeking candidates for the position of Project Manager.
Crossing Boundaries provides middle and high school students with knowledge, skills, motivation, and inspiration to use information and communication technologies in addressing biodiversity conservation issues in regional and international contexts. The project entails curriculum development, sustained teacher professional development, and opportunities for students to see scientific and environmental careers in action. Using geospatial tools and other technologies, secondary students will analyze biodiversity conservation issues in their local or regional environment as well as in the Kenyan savannah, Brazilian Amazon and Chiapas, Mexico. This project builds on over thirty years of collective experience in educational outreach, teacher professional development, and international education.
We are seeking a candidate who would bring creativity, passion, and organizational skills to this dynamic and exciting project. Applicants should have a background in education or educational outreach, creative use of emerging technologies in education, demonstrated leadership ability, and managerial or administrative experience. QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Qualifications: A person with an M.S. or M.A. in science, science education, environmental education, K-12 education, or a related field will be sought. Experience in K-12 settings and knowledge of teacher professional development are essential.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is also desired: biology, environmental science, environmental studies, geoscience, geospatial technologies, limnology, outdoor education, teaching, or watershed management.
OTHER INFORMATION:
This is a temporary, full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. Some weekend and evening hours may be necessary. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
Salary and Duration: Salary is commensurate with experience ($44K-$50K/year). Crossing Boundaries is a three-year project, which began in the summer of 2009. The Project Manager position will be reviewed and continued on an annual basis, based on satisfactory performance. There exists the possibility of additional funding for a similar position beyond the duration of the Crossing Boundaries project.
The Project Manager will reside at Hobart and William Smith and work with faculty at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the Finger Lakes Institute, and Cornell University.
Opportunities: This position involves considerable opportunities for one’s own professional development and growth. Funds are provided to network with other professionals locally, regionally and nationally. Travel to conferences based on one’s interests and background, in addition to project specific meetings is expected. Publication opportunities include writing curriculum as well as the potential to contribute to scholarly manuscripts or book chapters in the fields of science and environmental education.
