SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for supporting the departmental mission through the supervision of 8-10 paraprofessional staff members and the administration of a residence area of approximately 400 students. Special emphasis is placed upon the role of the Area Coordinator as an educator, promoting a meaningful integration of academic and residential life. The Area Coordinator for Residential Education is a 12-month live-in position reporting directly to the Director of Residential Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Select train, evaluate and develop 8-10 resident assistants.
  • Oversee a specific area housing a range of 400 – 500 undergraduate students.
  • Act as liaison with the faculty, deans, community, and appropriate college offices through attendance at college community functions and committees.
  • Participate in campus-wide programming efforts by professional and student staff.
  • Coordinate openings and closings, maintain occupancy records, building inventories, facilitate room changes, and manage damage billing for the area.
  • Serve as a judicial hearing officer for students referred for policy violations.
  • Respond to students and parents with issues and concerns.
  • Serve as a mediator for roommate conflicts.
  • Participate in an on-call duty rotation.
  • Actively participate in recruitment, selection, training, recognition and formal evaluation of paraprofessional staff.
  • Collaborate with other offices to engage students in campus programming initiatives.
  • Participate in a collateral assignment with an office outside the office of residential education for up to ten hours per week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling or a related field and one to three years residence life experience preferred; or a bachelor’s degree and experience in residence hall administration required. Energy and enthusiasm for working in a collaborative, vibrant and creative environment is a must. Sense of humor and flexibility with the goings on of the day to day of a residential campus will be beneficial.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a full-time 12-month, live-in, benefits-eligible administrative position. Compensation includes salary, a furnished apartment, local phone, cable, and meals during the academic year and full administrative benefits package. Professional development funds are available.
