Network and Systems Administrator
Information Technology Services
SUMMARY:
As a member of the Network and Systems Infrastructure Team, this person works with team members to ensure that the Colleges’ data, telecom, television networks along with other core systems are resilient, available, scalable and secure. He/she will manage all aspects of network operations, prevent security incidents, plan for upgrades, and respond to issues that arise.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform administration duties on Microsoft Widows Servers including installation, configuration, optimization, VMware management, and documentation of the server environment.
- Perform Exchange Server and mail administration.
- Develop, coordinate, and publish standards relating to the Colleges’ data storage, applications, and mail services.
- Help maintain test environment to assess configuration changes to network, server, desktops, and applications
- Assist in the evaluation and purchase of products and service that improve information technology delivery to the campus
- Assist in administering other core systems such as SharePoint, IIS, SQL2005, patch management, print management, etc.
- Manages Active Directory and works to integrate Active Directory with other campus data sources
- Administration of all aspects of the Colleges’ wired and wireless data network and infrastructure
- Actively manages network access control system, firewall, bandwidth management, virtual private network, DNS, mail routing, and other systems
- Actively updates change management documentation and provides management reports; ensure that infrastructure drawings and documentation are current
- Assist in administration of Colleges’ disaster recovery and business continuity operations
- Provide Tier II and Tier III support on user requests regarding data network issues and assists the team in responding to telecom and server infrastructure requests
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures and general documentation
- Provide data for collection of performance, service delivery performance and customer satisfaction metrics
- Maintains test environment to assess configuration changes to network, server, desktops, and applications
- Evaluates and recommends system enhancements to improve operational efficiencies
- Collaborates with vendors to evaluate and implement network products and services
- Engage in all aspects of the team, facilities, and department activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree in a technology-related field (equivalent training and experience may be considered)
- At least 5 years of experience administering network and system services with a focus on information technology security and managing enterprise-level TCP/IP networks
- Understanding of common network protocols and operating systems along with their relevant security issues
- Possess real-world operational and implementation expertise to deliver integrated security solutions
- Ability to effectively adopt and integrate new security technologies
- Proficiency with working in a team-centered environment with a high-degree of planning, communication, change-management documentation, and customer service
- Strong project management orientation
- Substantial experience with network security standards and practices, including traffic monitoring, anti-virus, patch management, and remote access
- Preferred industry certifications for network professionals: (ESE, ESSE, ECIE, CCIE, CCNA, network and any server and desktop OS Certifications are a plus
- Experience with the following systems/services is desirable: Enterasys network equipment, Cisco PIX, PKI, 802.1x, 802.11abg, RADIUS, SNMP, Cisco Clean Access, Aventail SSL VPN, PacketShaper
OTHER INFORMATION:
This position is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. On-call hours are required for maintenance and troubleshooting. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
