ERP Planning Project - 4/13/2006
Identify opportunities for improvement: This project is a one-time opportunity to address the issues we face in our daily jobs, and create new capabilities to serve our constituents. All employees should seek and communicate these opportunities.
Constituent Focus: All processes will be designed with the needs of the customer in mind. Note that ‘customer’ could be a student, the faculty or another business function within the institution.
Fact-Based Decision Making: We want to drive to a culture where decisions will be made using actual facts and metrics wherever possible. ‘Because this is the way we’ve always done it’ or ‘I heard that _____ does it like this’ will not be acceptable. The enterprise systems need to enable this by providing the right information to the right people at the right time, so they can make the right decisions.
Measurement and Accountability: Institutional performance will be measured against goals tied to our strategic objectives. This will allow us all to understand and achieve our targeted goals.
Best Practices Approach: We will adopt the best practices incorporated in the software we select and adapt our processes to match. Customization of the software will only occur if all other avenues have been exhausted.
Systems of Record: The enterprise systems will become the primary source of information within the institution. Other systems will not be used for institutional decision making or for primary storage of key institutional data.
Process Orientation: Business processes will be agreed to and documented. Processes will drive the way we work, not the individuals who execute them.
Adaptiveness: The new environment must allow the institution to be nimble and flexible in the future, and allow us to work in different ways as our needs change. It must be able to easily connect with external systems, allow for changes in business process, and scale to meet new challenges as they arise.
People: While the nature of the work will change, we will provide the necessary training and support for all staff to make you successful in the new environment.
