One of the HWS institutional goals is to replace faculty and staff primary computers on a four-year cycle, as budget permits. When those computers are scheduled for replacement, Colleges faculty and staff will be contacted by a technician from IT Services' Field Support Team.
Below is the current list of HWS standard computers. The specifications as listed are standard and any additions (e.g. external monitor, docking station, and/or Accidental Damage Protection Insurance--see below for details) will require a budget number prior to ordering the computer equipment.
All computers include Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and anti-virus software. The choice between Apple and PC should be motivated by the applications that are required to perform your job duties.
Once a new computer has been ordered and delivered to campus, the Field Support team will coordinate installation and the return of the old computer.
Note: Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) Insurance Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) Insurance is an option IT Services strongly recommends when purchasing a notebook computer. ADP covers repair or replacement costs for damage that is not covered under your 3-year warranty, such as drops and spills. This coverage is available within the United States and Canada.
Should you process an ADP claim, replacement cost is defined as "the cost to replace covered property with similar kind and quality property at the time of the loss". The value of the property is determined at the time of loss.
If you choose NOT to purchase the Accidental Damage Protection Insurance (ADP) and non-warranty damage occurs, your department is responsible for replacement. A new LCD screen could cost up to $400-$450 and a new system board could cost $600-$700.
For our standard HP ProBook model, the cost for 4-year ADP insurance is $155; for MacBooks it is $303. When the computer is ordered, the cost of ADP will be charged to the budget number you provide.
