Hobart and William Smith Colleges has for loan a set of GPS units that can be used to collect point data in the field.
Field data collection with these units can be used for many teaching and learning uses, including the following:
The primary tool available from IT Services is the Garmin Oregon 200 Series. This unit features a 3 in. diagonal display with 240 x 400 px. resolution and transflective color TFT touchscreen, automatic routing, sun/moon information, tide tables, and area calculation.
GPS units are available for loan from the Help Desk. GPS data can be uploaded to a campus computer that currently has ArcGIS 10 installed. The software that will allow access to collected points is DNR GPS. This is a freeware GPS software tool that has been installed to the computers located in the MM lab (Lib 1002).
