At HWS, I was a Political Science major and an International Relations and Media and Society double minor. I studied abroad at the University College of Maastricht in the Netherlands, traveled to Tokyo as part of the HWS partnership with the Tanaka Foundation, and completed an honors project on hip-hop music and authenticity. I was also very involved in the arts on campus; I starred in two musicals and sang in the Chorale, Cantori, Jazz Ensemble and Three Miles Lost.
Currently, I am in graduate school at The New School for Social Research in New York City where I?m studying to get my M.A. in political science. My focus is on the Middle East and Palestinian rights. I started taking Arabic this year because I hope to go to Palestine next summer to help rebuild houses and do other community service projects.
Last semester I interned with the largest American Muslim civil liberties organization in the country, the Council on American Islamic Relations. I interned in community affairs and helped register new voters and conduct pre- and post-election polling in the New York Muslim community. This semester I co-organized the ?9th Annual Critical Themes in Media Studies Graduate Student Conference? and it was a huge success. This summer I will be interning with Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
My plans for the future are still undecided but I?m thinking about either going on to earn my Ph.D. or attending law school for public interest and human rights. I?m also really interested in working for an international non-governmental organization. I haven?t made up my mind yet!
