Baptiste '14 at HubSpot

Posted on Monday, August 04, 2014

Soon after graduating from the Colleges, Jean Baptiste '14 landed a position with HubSpot, an inbound marketing software platform that helps companies attract visitors, convert leads, and close customers. As a support engineer, Baptiste's duties include providing high-quality technical support for the HubSpot Software Program and customers, programming, and web development.

"My experiences working in IT Services, the Digital Learning Center, and the Help Desk definitely prepared me for this role," says Baptiste. "In order for me to be successful, I must possess the ability to think differently and look at things from different perspectives, which my professors at HWS instilled in me."

For Baptiste, a media and society major and political science minor, HubSpot is a perfect fit. "I was interested in being part of a growing company with a culture code that fit with my style of learning," he says. "Everyone here is from different backgrounds and I learn from everyone, every day."

When he first arrived at HWS, Baptiste was unsure what path he wanted to pursue. Through alum networking and job shadowing, Baptiste discovered his interests. "I thought I wanted to be involved in politics, but that changed quickly. I found out that I want to help businesses get discovered through technology and change the way companies think about selling products."

As a student, Baptiste was the recipient of the Opell Family Scholarship. He played intramural basketball, club lacrosse, and flag football. In addition to his role at IT services, he worked for the Post Office, was a Hobart ambassador for the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, and the social media assistant for the Student Activities Office. Baptiste was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity and was named Greek Man of the Year in 2013.

Dedicated to service, Baptiste served as an America Reads volunteer, and was named Tutor of the Month during his first-year. During summer 2013, he traveled to Haiti as an intern with Hand-in-Hand with Haiti, where he served at Lycee Jean-Baptiste Pointe Du Sable School in Saint-Marc. Working with pre-school students, Baptiste helped with the planning and implementation of activities and lessons with a common goal of promoting social development and encouraging learning.
