The William Smith tennis team downed Bard 9-0 in a match played Saturday in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. The Herons improve to 12-4 overall, while the Raptors are now 7-5 this season.
The Herons swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead. Sophomores Charlotte Federowicz and Hannah Webster posted an 8-2 victory at the top spot. Sophomore Kelley Hartmann teamed with first-year Annie Venditti for an 8-2 win at No. 2. William Smith won by default at the No. 3 spot.
The Herons cruised to wins at Nos. 1-5 singles and won again by default at the No. 6 spot. Sophomore Sydney Arsenault downed her opposition 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and junior Haley Wolf blanked her competition 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Senior Casey Nicoletti breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 3. Federowicz won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and Hartmann registered a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.
William Smith will be back on the courts on Thursday, April 24, when it hosts Ithaca for its final match of the regular season at 4 p.m.
