Boswell Field will host the 100th lacrosse meeting between Hobart College and Syracuse University on Saturday, April 19. The game will be televised by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel and is scheduled to face off at 3:07 p.m.
Since 1986, the Statesmen and Orange have played for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy, which honors National Lacrosse Hall of Fame coaches Babe Kraus of Hobart and Roy Simmons Sr. of Syracuse. Saturday's showdown will be the 29th Kraus-Simmons Trophy game, with the Statesmen prevailing in 1986, 2006, and 2013.
The Statesmen captured the Trophy last season with a 13-12 victory in the Carrier Dome. Hobart scored the final four goals of the contest, getting the game-winner from senior attackman Alex Love (6g,1a) with 2:13 remaining. Senior goalie Peter Zonino completed his 18-save performance with two stops in the final two minutes to secure the victory.
The Orange lead the all-time series 71-26-2. In collegiate lacrosse, only two rivalries have been contested more often than Hobart-Syracuse. Johns Hopkins and Maryland have played 110 times while the Statesmen and Cornell have played the most, squaring off for the 133rd time earlier this season.
Hobart is coming off a 15-6 Northeast Conference win at Wagner on April 11. The Statesmen are 4-7 overall. Senior attackmen Jake McHenry and Cam Stone share the team lead with 26 points apiece. McHenry has a team-high 24 goals while Stone has a team-best 19 assists. The NEC Player of the Week, Stone broke the Hobart Division I career assists record against the Seahawks, setting up six goals to raise the mark to 81, two more than Nate Hill '05. Senior goalie Peter Zonino has started all 11 games, recording a 9.75 goals against average and a .529 save percentage.
Syracuse comes to Geneva riding a four-game winning streak. Ranked fourth in the nation in both the USILA coaches and Inside Lacrosse media polls, the Orange are 8-3 overall following Saturday's 11-10 double overtime win against North Carolina.
Junior attackman Kevin Rice leads the offense with 26 assists and 48 points. Sophomore attackman Dylan Donahue sports a team-high 26 goals. Senior Dominic Lamolinara (4-3, 12.81 GAA, .500 SV%) and junior Bobby Wardwell (4-0, 10.57, .540) have split time in goal.
Tickets are $5 for general admission, $2 for children 12 and under. Parking in the Boswell Field lot (purple on the map below) is reserved for Statesmen Athletic Association members and the media. General fan parking is available on campus in the Odell's South, Barn, and Medbury lots, as well as at the Geneva Centre (orange on the map). Fan parking at nearby businesses or in the Odell's North lot (red on the map) is prohibited and cars may be towed at the owner's expense.
In addition to Time Warner's coverage, WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3 in Geneva) will broadcast the game live. Fans can also watch online with live stats and All-Access Video (New York residents will not be able to watch All-Access due to the agreement with TWCS).
