Call Security, a band comprised of five HWS students, won a total of $750 in cash and $750 in studio time at Turning Stone Resort Casino's "College Battle of the Bands" competition on Thursday, March 27. Call Security was named the second place winner by the panel of judges and the audience voted the band "Fan Favorite."
Call Security faced competition from bands from Le Moyne College, Ithaca College, SUNY Oneonta, Binghamton University, SUNY New Paltz, Nazareth College and Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Each band submitted audition tapes to qualify for the competition and performed a 30-minute set for a panel of judges from the local music scene.
Members of Call Security include Peter Keller '15 on bass, Tucker Jennings '14 on drums, Kathryn Middleton '14 on keyboard, Michelle Poulin '15 on guitar, and Ben Scheibel '14 on vocals. The band released a six-song EP in 2013, which is now available on iTunes.
Call Security, inspired by the likes of Blink 182, the Killers, and Mumford and Sons, formed in 2011 and has played numerous shows on campus, highlighted by its performance as the opening act for Passion Pit at the Smith Opera House in May of 2012. Call Security was named the "Judges' Choice" winner at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center's 2013 Battle of the Bands, which led them to a performance in Webster Hall in New York City.
