Arriving on campus for one of the great traditions at HWS, students and faculty, family and friends, and alums from across the country and around the world have officially kicked off Homecoming and Family Weekend 2013. This year's line-up of events features the traditional academic year customs, including the Fall Nationals soap box derby race, a student talent show, mini-college classes with faculty, and much more.
Events are taking place throughout the weekend, ending on Sunday, Sept. 22. See the full Homecoming 2013 schedule here. Registration for the weekend is available in the William Hunting Smith Library atrium beginning on Friday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and will take place on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.
"With last fall's event drawing more than 3,000 people, the Colleges are on track this year to see another Homecoming and Family Weekend with great attendance," says Director of Parent Relations Kelly Young P'16. "From the Quad-a-Palooza Barbecue and the Barnburner Pre-Game Dinner to the Lox and Bagels Fundraiser Brunch at the Abbe Center on Sunday morning, members of the HWS community will find great events around campus all weekend long."
As Homecoming and Family Weekend gets underway, Young says the annual gathering is the perfect time for all members of the HWS community to get together to share in the spirit and tradition of the Colleges, and support the Statesmen and Herons at home.
In addition to this year's numerous activities, alums who graduated during the past 10 years will have the chance to join in on a number of special activities.
"We wanted our Graduates of the Last Decade to be recognized and celebrated as important and unique members of the Hobart and William Smith community," says Caroline Whelan, assistant director of the Annual Fund. "We know that many recent graduates found their home here at HWS, and may still be working on finding themselves in a new place. We are inviting them to come home and spend time with friends and classmates who are recent graduates."
The Homecoming and Family Weekend registration fee will be waived for recent graduates who join panelists Sarah Kirchoff '06, Jane Erickson '07, David Grome '07 and Caleb Campbell '11 for a talk called "Life After HWS: Navigating the First Few Years" held on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in Coxe Hall, Room 7.
A program designed specifically for recent graduates, "Life After HWS" is geared toward recent alums, beginning their journey beyond HWS. Attendees will hear from seasoned alums about how to navigate a new job, meet new friends, and find activities that will sustain them in this next phase. Information also will be provided on the HWS alumni and alumnae network and services offered by Alumni House.
