The Hobart College golf team won the first Liberty League weekly awards of the 2013-14 season. Senior Ben Ayres was tabbed the Performer of the Week and first-year Dylan Hedgepeth earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Ayres finished 13th out of 62 golfers in the Pitt-Bradford Invitational. He carded a 79 at Pine Acres Country Club, a 10-stroke improvement over his 2012 round on that course.
In his first collegiate tournament, Hedgepeth tied for 23rd place. He shot an 81 on the par 72 layout, just two strokes off Ayres' score.
Hobart finished fifth out of 12 teams in the tournament. The Statesmen posted a team score of 320, five strokes better than last season. Hobart was just two strokes behind the host Panthers, who finished fourth.
The Statesmen return to action Sept. 7-8 when they compete in the St. John Fisher Invitational at the Stafford Country Club in Stafford, N.Y.
