Students interested in learning more about campus activities and extracurricular involvement at HWS will have the chance to explore their options during the 2013 Involvement Expo, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 on the Quad or in Vandervort if it rains.
From club sports and cultural groups to causes and community engagement, more than 100 different interests will be represented during the two-hour event hosted by the HWS Office of Student Activities. Various departments and offices also will be represented at the Expo.
"The Involvement Expo gives students from all class years, particularly first-year students, the opportunity to explore all of the great clubs and activities offered at Hobart and William Smith," says Program Coordinator of Student Activities Jessie Marullo. "Students are encouraged to take their time during the Expo. It's the perfect opportunity to create connections with groups and meet the students who are involved."
Marullo says it's the premier event on campus for showcasing student activities all in one place.
In addition to networking and making new connections, students also can participate in raffles in which they can win supplies for class and items for their dorm rooms, among other prizes. To help students navigate the event and find the groups they're most interested in, students can pick up a map of the Expo, which will be located at one of two Student Activities tables situated on each side of Coxe Hall.
Throughout the event, there also will be a "Club Spotlight," in which a club or organization will perform, demonstrate or showcase their talents.
Program Coordinator of Student Activities Denise Polanco '11, who helped Marullo organize the event, says the Expo allows students to get a broad perspective on the extracurricular activities that they can choose from around campus. Polanco says that students can manage and narrow their options after the event by considering their available time and the ability to commit.
