Two Hobart College oarsmen were recently honored for their academic work. Seniors Rob Nanovsky and Nathaniel Shils earned a spot on the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships Stewards' All-Academic Team.
To be honored, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35.
Nanovsky was three seat in the varsity eight this season, earning a bronze medal at the ECAC NIRC. He was a part of nine Liberty League Boat of the Week Award winning crews this season. Nanovsky and the Hobart 1V earned gold medals at the Liberty League and New York State championships. The Statesmen 1V was voted the Liberty League Crew of the Year in a vote of the conference's head coaches. It's the second straight season Nanovsky has been a member of the Crew of the Year.
A three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, Nanovsky graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in philosophy.
A team captain, Shils was five seat in the third varsity eight this year, earning a silver medal at the ECAC NIRC. He was a part of one Liberty League Boat of the Week Award winning crew. Shils and the Hobart 3V earned a gold medal at the New York State Championships and a silver medal at the Knecht Cup.
Also a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, Shils graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in political science.
Nanovsky and Shils helped Hobart to four consecutive Liberty League championships and the 2012 New York State All-Points title during their undergraduate careers.
