Posted on Friday, May 03, 2013

The Colleges hosted a Color Run on the last day of classes, Tuesday, May 7. The event, called "The Color 1: HWS," was a one-mile run around campus beginning and ending on the Quad. At the finish line. participants experienced a color explosion cloud, sherbet, water and music to. All proceeds benefited Team Mussel of Geneva.

The Color Run was modeled after such events as ColorVibe and Color Me Rad 5K runs. Throughout the course, there were five color stations at which runners were sprayed with colored powder.  The powder, colored food-grade quality cornstarch that was manufactured and produced in the United States, was non-toxic and biodegradable. Once participants reached the Quad, they were handed a color packet and threw them in the air, creating a color explosion cloud.

While planning the run, event organizer Lauren Morosky '14 remarked, "We want this to be a campus wide collaboration that we all can share and experience, celebrating the closing of the Spring 2013 semester together as one campus."

The $5 registration fee benefited Team Mussel. A group of Geneva elementary and middle school students who spend the spring and summer preparing for the MusselKids race, which takes place in Geneva in July. The kids meet five days a week to run, swim, and bike and learn about health, wellness, nutrition, and the fun of triathlon. The funds will be used to repair bicycles, purchase helmets and sneakers, help with pool use fees and transportation expenses.
