Concerts Close Out Semester

The Colleges' Department of Music will complete the spring semester's program this Thursday through Sunday with four concerts. All of the concerts are open to the public and free of charge; however, donations are greatly appreciated.

The Colleges Jazz Ensemble will perform on Thursday, May 2, under the direction of Bob Barbuto. A student group, the Jazz Ensemble provides a performance opportunity for talented student "jazzers" and accommodates a variety of instrumental combinations. The concert will begin at 10 p.m. in the Geneva Room.

On Friday, May 3, the Colleges Brass Ensemble will play its final concert of the semester. Directed by Jim Trowbridge, the Brass Ensemble works to provide a platform for talented student brass players of all levels to work together on a variety of different arrangements. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in St. John's Chapel.

The Colleges String and Woodwind Ensembles will perform a joint show on at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, in St. John's Chapel. Led by Director Andrew Zaplatynsky, the String Ensemble performs a wide variety of orchestral arrangements. In recent years the group has performed works by Corelli, Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Albeniz, and Scott Joplin. 

The Woodwind Ensemble, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Mark Olivieri, is a student chamber group for talented flutists, oboists, clarinetists, bassoonists and saxophonists, as well as French horn and string players seeking a creative space to practice and perform.

Closing the spring semester's concert series is are the Colleges Percussion and Jazz Guitar Ensembles. On Sunday, May 5, the groups will perform a joint concert at 3 p.m. in Williams Hall, Room 200. Directed by Anthony Calabrese, the Percussion Ensemble is an excellent opportunity for students of all levels to practice and perform. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Greg Wachala, and plays arrangements for two, three, four, or more guitars.
