On Tuesday, March 12, find out how ‘hope happens' on the HWS campus with a dialogue on the issues of race and racism currently facing our campus hosted by the Race and Racism Coalition (RRC). All members of the HWS and Geneva communities are invited to the forum which begins at 7 p.m. in the Vandervort Room.
Formed in the fall of 2012, the organization is comprised of students, faculty and staff who want to improve dialogue around issues of race and racism and to work to resolve its effects on the campus community.
From racism in Broadway musicals, incidents on campus, creating sites for change to helping students become active allies, the RRC hopes to be a productive outlet for discussion and action.
This first forum of the semester will be divided into a collection of tables, allowing attendees to engage in numerous topics of discussion. Small groups will converse at each table for 10 minutes before moving on to a different location.
Tables include videos meant to spark serious conversation, discussions on the bystander effect, and open talks on issues that have occurred on campus. With each of these stations, members of the coalition hope to "untangle stereotypes," and open communication.
Those with questions relating to this forum or the mission of the RRC, or those hoping to become involved with the coalition should contact RRC@hws.edu.
