Posted on Friday, February 15, 2013
With nearly three decades of experience, Dr. Barry Jaffin '77 will share his knowledge of the medical world with current HWS students. The event, hosted by The Salisbury Center for Career Services, will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 4 p.m. in the Seneca Room.
Jaffin's presentation will focus on the medical school application process, with which he is intimately familiar. Jaffin works for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he evaluates medical school applications and interviews candidates. His dedication to medical students also carries over to his role at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he is a physician. Jaffin helps educate medical students, residents, and gastroenterology fellows.
After earning his undergraduate degree in biology from Hobart, Jaffin went on to graduate from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He then completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Medical Center Hospital in Vermont, and a gastroenterology fellowship at Boston University Medical Center.
Jaffin also helps run West Side Gastroenterology in Manhattan with a partner, which has been in operation for more than 15 years. The practice focuses on patients with problems of the digestive system. Jaffin's areas of interest include motility disorders of the esophagus, stomach, and colon.
