This winter, the HWS campus will be transformed into a winter wonderland with its first Winterpalooza festival. With snow activities, seasonal giveaways and food, the festival will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, on Bristol Lawn from 12 - 4 p.m.
Carriage rides around the Scandling Campus Center also promise to be a highlight of the celebrations. Others will want to partake in the unusual photo booth - after taking a photo in front of a wintery background, friends will have the chance to have the picture put into their own snow globe.
Attendees are encouraged not to miss the ice sculpting demonstration. More daring students can try their hand at a mechanical snowboard - no mountains required.
Later, students can explore the large festival tent and warm up with a cup of hot cocoa, dig into a chocolate fondue fountain or toast a marshmallow at the s'mores bar. Students can also enjoy a lunch from a variety of vendors; a baked potato bar will provide toppings for a hearty, winter meal.
On Friday, Feb. 1, the day before festivities commence, students are invited to a kick-off celebration, featuring a raffle, games, candy and more from 12 - 3 p.m.
An ice skating rink will be the centerpiece for Winterpalooza. All students interested in enjoying the large, open-air rink are encouraged to bring their skates. The rink will officially open with a "Skating Under the Lights" celebration on Friday, Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. The late-night event invites students to lace up their skates, take a spin on the new ice, and enjoy music, hot chocolate and good company.
