Posted on Friday, December 14, 2012

The Statesmen are ranked No. 4 in both the USCHO.com poll and the D3hockey.com poll this week. Hobart is off to its best start in program history with an 11-1-2 overall record and a 5-0-1 mark in the ECAC West going into the holiday break. The Statesmen sit atop the ECAC West and rank seventh in the nation in scoring defense allowing just 1.64 goals per game. Hobart ranks second in the league and 10th in Division III in scoring offense averaging 4.21 goals per game.

In addition, three members of the Hobart College hockey team were honored by the ECAC West this week. Senior Ryan Corcoran was named the Player of the Week, and senior Nick Broadwater was tabbed the Goalie of the Week. First-year Ben Gamache earned a spot on the conference's weekly honor roll.

Corcoran shared a team-high with two points last week. On Saturday, he capped Hobart's rally from a 2-0 deficit, scoring the game-tying goal in the final second of regulation to send the game against No. 2 Oswego into overtime. He also chipped in an assist on the Statesmen's first goal in a 3-1 victory over Buffalo State on Wednesday. Corcoran has produced two goals and seven assists this season and is tied for fifth in the conference in defensemen scoring.

It's the third time this season that Broadwater has been selected the Goalie of the Week. He made a total of 74 saves in 123:06 in goal last week, recording a .950 save percentage and a 1.95 goals against average. Broadwater turned aside 36 shots against the Bengals, and stopped a season-high 40 shots against the Lakers. He is sporting a 1.36 goals against average and a .948 save percentage this year. Broadwater leads the ECAC West and is tied for third in the country in save percentage. He also sits atop the conference and ranks fourth in the nation in goals against average. Broadwater is 8-1-2 in goal this season.

Gamache scored the game-winning goal for Hobart against Buffalo State. His sixth goal of the season came at 11:45 in the third period. Gamache has also produced four assists this year, and is tied for fourth in the ECAC West in first-year scoring.

The Statesmen will travel to Europe over the holiday break. Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 12 when it travels to take on Curry in a non-league game at 4:35 p.m.
