Dr. Wasserman'70 to Discuss Immunology

Posted on Monday, October 22, 2012

Assistant Professor of Biology Patricia Mowery will welcome Trustee Dr. Richard Wasserman '70 as a guest lecturer in her course, "Biology 302: Immunology." Wasserman will discuss immunology and the history of antibody production and antibody therapy on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m., in Eaton 110.

Wasserman, a pediatric immunologist, has more than 30 years of experience treating patients who suffer from defects in their immune system. He serves as  clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and president of Dallas Allergy-Immunology. His discussion will be geared toward students interested in the field of medicine and health care.

In addition to serving as a member of the HWS Board of Trustees, Wasserman supports the Abbe Center for Jewish Life and funded the construction of the Tina Wasserman Kosher Kitchen and the Wasserman Garden of Quiet Repose. The kitchen was named in honor of his wife, a renowned kosher chef. He has also served as past president and member of Hobart College Alumni Council for several years. As a Trustee, he serves on committees focusing on enrollment management, buildings and grounds, student life and technology.

While a student at Hobart, Wasserman majored in chemistry and graduated with honors. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Orange Key Society, Chimera, the Druid Society, Hobart Student Court, and worked on the staff of the Herald.

The lecture is one of the many advantages HWS students enjoy in the health professions major. The outstanding support from HWS alums and the local community provides students with access to a wealth of mentors and thus to a great variety of clinical internships and opportunities to gain practical experiences in health care.
