Inaugural Women’s Studies Tea

Posted on Monday, October 22, 2012

The Women's Studies Department is celebrating its 40-year history by establishing what is expected to become a new tradition. The inaugural Women's Studies Tea will take place Wednesday, Oct. 24, and is intended to unite current and prospective women's studies majors and minors to form a stronger community with one another, as well as further build relationships with faculty members. Tea and desserts will be served during an informal cross-generational roundtable discussion about women's studies as an academic discipline.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of women's studies at the Colleges, senior faculty members will share some of their experiences creating the curriculum at a time when such courses and topics were not commonly taught at colleges and universities. Junior faculty members will also share stories of their involvement in undergraduate and graduate women's studies programs and departments. Students are invited to share their accounts and perspective as well.

More Women's Studies Tea events will be held throughout the semester to continue to bring together the women's studies community on campus. The first Women's Studies Tea will take place at 7 p.m., in the Fisher Center, located on the second floor of Demarest Hall. Current and potential women's studies majors and minors are encouraged to attend, but students of any major and minor are welcome. Majors and minors in attendance will receive a special 40th anniversary mug.
