On Friday, Oct. 19, the Colleges will host the fifth annual College 101 program for local Girl Scouts in grades 8 - 12. Designed to encourage the young women to pursue higher education, the program is an educational and interactive event. Throughout the day, the scouts gain an understanding of what it's like to be a college student in today's world.
After arriving on campus and receiving a tour of the Colleges and getting a glimpse into classes and enjoying the daily bustle of life at HWS, the Girl Scouts will explore career options.
The scouts will also have the opportunity to attend a talk about body image, personal wellness and the influence of social media on a young women's perception of herself and her life. Following the discussion, lunch will be shared in Saga Dining Hall, where the scouts will have the chance to meet with students in a casual environment.
In addition to a talk about financial aid options for students of the Colleges, the scouts will attend a panel discussion on "College Life Today," held in the Vandervort Room. The panel will give the young women a chance to ask any questions concerning life at HWS, as a young adult, as well as the work and life of a college student.
