Advancing Women in the Workplace

Andrew Malordy '14 spent his summer in New York City working at Catalyst, a non-profit research and advisory organization that aims to advance women in the workplace. Malordy served as account manager and Financial Post 500 census intern.
"Each year the top 500 companies in Canada are listed, and we at Catalyst seek to obtain the specific information about each of those companies' senior officers," explains Malordy, adding that his role places him "in charge of half of the Financial Post 500 companies as account manager."
Malordy credits Assistant Professor of Psychology Jamie Bodenlos with preparing him for his internship through an independent study. "It definitely gave me a head start for this particular job. I learned a great deal about handling and working with data, which has transferred over nicely to my current work," he says.
While Malordy learned much about non-profit operations, he also says that his experience taught him about pursuing opportunity. "One thing I've realized both at Catalyst and HWS is, if there is a job or internship that you are particularly interested in, no matter how far-fetched or out there it may seem, reach out to the right people and show your interest and things will get started," he says.
On campus, Malordy was a member of the Hobart soccer team for two years and is a member of Theta Delta Chi. He is also a member of the track and field club, and is working to form the HWS psychology club.
