Erica DiMaria '14 spent her summer as a public relations intern with the Bourne Braves, a summer Collegiate Baseball League team located in Cape Cod. The team is comprised of Division I college athletes from around the country, many of whom will become professionals.
"The Cape Cod Baseball league is a nonprofit organization; therefore, we make our money through fundraising and donations. My goal is to gain a very good understanding and experience in public relations as well as getting to know people from different places of origin," says DiMaria.
DiMaria's responsibilities were aimed at enhancing the stadium experience of the fans and the players' family members. She also coordinated and assisted the singer of the National Anthem and kept fans posted on various team events. Working hand-in-hand with the director of game day operations, DiMaria also oversaw other interns to make sure tasks are being completed on time.
Ultimately, she hopes to put knowledge gained to work through her Latin American Studies major and minors in anthropology and international relations by providing dental care to those who are in need in Latin America. She believes her internship in public relations has helped her understand how to better provide information to people.
"I want to be able to travel around the world and help to provide services to communities that may not otherwise be available to them," she says. "I like helping others and knowing that I have provided them with information that can help them in the future."
