A Day with the NY Giants

Posted on Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Jenna Lohre '12 had a once in a lifetime experience this summer when she spent a day shadowing the medical staff of the New York Giants at the teams' minicamp.

Lohre, who just received her bachelor's degree in religious studies with a minor in health professions, is currently attending Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine.

"I've been interested in sports medicine for quite a while and that stems from my athletic career at HWS," says Lohre, who was a member of the William Smith rowing and cross country teams. "Through these experiences I was exposed to many different sports injuries, including a few of my own."

Lohre spent the day shadowing Ronnie Barnes, medical director of the New York Giants, along with other medical staff members, including Steve Canali who used to work as a trainer at HWS.

Throughout the day, Lohre watched as the athletes had their ankles and wrists taped to provide additional support and prevent swelling for existing injuries. She notes that her highlight of the day was working with the Giants star Wide Receiver Hakeem Nicks. Nicks was a few weeks out of foot surgery, and Lohre stretched the ligaments in his injured foot and watched as the medical staff evaluated the site of his incision.

Lohre is grateful of the opportunity and believes the experience will help prepare her as she continues working toward her career goals. The visit was coordinated through Hobart alum Russell Hawley '79, who serves as the vice president of marketing for the Giants.
