Skeffington’13 Broadens Legal Experience

Posted on Thursday, July 26, 2012

In August, Leslie Skeffington '13 will start an internship with Attorney Timothy J. Buckley in Geneva. Skeffington's passion for law began last summer.

"I had an internship with the Livingston County District Attorney's office in Geneseo," she says. "Interning there was very inspirational and thought-provoking. It sparked a huge interest in law for me and I knew I wanted to continue down that path."

Skeffington, a public policy major with a concentration in law, found her internship with the help of the Salisbury Center for Career Services and Professional Development while she was studying abroad this past spring in San Joaquín de Flores in Costa Rica.

Buckley's law office specializes in elder law, estate planning and real estate, business, personal injury, criminal cases, and adoption cases.

"He is a judge as well as a lawyer, which is what interested me the most. I've always been curious about what goes on behind the scenes and not just in the courtroom. I think interning for him will be very educational and informative," says Skeffington.

During her internship, she will have the chance to meet clients and sit in on  meetings, as well as view proceedings in the City Court. She plans to pursue a career in law after she graduates and has already registered to take the LSAT in October, hoping to apply to law schools in November.

Skeffington was a student secretary in the Hobart Deans Office.
