Sarah Wilson '12 may have only walked across the steps of Coxe Hall mere days ago, but even as she took the walk to receive her diploma, she knew what was beyond graduation: gainful employment. Wilson, who earned her B.A. in history, joined The Bozzuto Group as a sales and service associate in the Boston area. Wilson will work on leasing contracts, take perspective residents on tours of properties and assist any of the group's many projects.
Thanks to Wilson's hard work as an intern at the group's Park Lane Seaport property in Boston last summer, she was offered the post with Bozzuto. "I loved my internship," explains Wilson. "Property management and real estate development encompass what I find most attractive in a career. My internship gave me the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of managing a residential property. I hope to continue building upon my work experience in a team-oriented and goal-driven environment."
For Wilson, working within the real estate world offers her a chance to interact directly with clients and step out of the normal office environment. "My liberal arts education at HWS has given me the opportunity to experience a wide range of interdisciplinary topics," says Wilson.
As a history major, Wilson found that the courses she took improved her analytical skills and aided her endeavors in the business world. She also benefited from economics classes, which have helped her attain quantitative skills, and her time abroad in Maastricht, which provided her with a multitude of new perspectives and a deep appreciation for other cultures.
Career Services proved an invaluable service for Wilson, who approached the offices about finding a meaningful internship last summer. Following an on-campus interview with a recruiter, Wilson knew that Bozzuto was the right fit for her - dovetailing her customer service background with her enthusiasm for working closely with clients. "I definitely would not have been able to find the Bozzuto internship without Career Services," says Wilson.
As far as the future is concerned, Wilson sees herself thriving in a work environment like the one at Bozzuto. Wilson also hopes to attain her MBA, eventually moving into a managerial position.
On campus, Wilson was a member of the Heron's cross country team, and the alpine ski team, serving as team captain in her senior year. She also participated in the America Counts program and the eco-fusion program at Geneva Middle School. She was also a member of the Students in Free Enterprise club, where she helped to develop outreach programs to improve the HWS and Geneva communities through the application of business concepts.
Co-founded by Hobart alumnus and HWS trustee Thomas S. Bozzuto '68, the Bozzuto Group is a privately held real estate services organization consisting of six that create quality homes and extraordinary communities while maintaining the utmost respect for the environment.
The Bozzuto Group, its companies and its principals have won the nation's highest honors, including being named as one of the "Best Places to Work" in the greater Washington, D.C. area in 2005, 2009 and 2010 by the Washington Business Journal.
