Celebrating the many successes of Campaign for the Colleges, including the surpassing of the $200 million fundraising goal, Reunion 2012 will host a gala on Saturday, June 2, to recognize the leadership and generosity of the alums, parents, friends, faculty and staff who contributed to this effort over the years.
Held in Bristol Field House, the Campaign Celebration will gather together members of all classes for a cocktail reception and buffet dinner to commemorate the historic initiative. Following a short program, guests will be invited to the Quad for coffee, dessert and fireworks before Quad Party 2012.
While this event will be the pinnacle of a memorable Reunion 2012 weekend, it is just one offering during Reunion Weekend that will begin on May 31 and continue through Sunday, June 3. While the classes from 1972 to 2007 will celebrate five year milestones, alums will come from all over the country and world, representing the classes from 1936 to 2012.
"This year's reunion promises to be bigger and better than ever with the inaugural HWS Classic Golf Tournament and the Campaign Celebration. While this year's festivities will teem with activities and opportunities to rekindle old friendships and revive old memories of the Colleges, alums will also have the opportunity to make new connections and memories with generations of Hobart and William Smith alums," says Director of Alumni Relations Jared Weeden '91.
Director of Alumnae Relations Kathy Killius Regan'82, P'13 also anticipates a wonderful weekend. "We all look forward to this weekend because it's the Colleges' best opportunity to show off what's new and improved on campus, all while reassuring our alums that so much is still just as they left it," she says.
This year's festivities will kick off on Thursday, May 31 with a 50th PLUS Welcome Reception and the inaugural HWS Classic Golf Tournament at Bristol Harbour, where pre-registered alums will spend the day playing golf with Christopher McDonald '77, known for his role as Shooter McGavin in "Happy Gilmore."
Throughout the course of the weekend, the campus will be hopping with the cool sounds of jazz from alums Bob Masteller '60, Al Scheren '60 and Steve Venuti '71, the upbeat cover songs by Me and the Boyz on the Quad or the vocal talents of any alums brave enough to take on the challenge of Karaoke in the Cellar Pub.
Alums can also head back to school beginning with a campus tour led by current students. They can revisit their days spent in Demarest Hall as well as see all of the new construction that has taken place since their last visit. On Friday, returning members of the HWS community can attend a variety of afternoon symposia led by alums and faculty, learning about everything from U.S. healthcare to the U.S. economy. For those who are unable to participate on Friday, many Alumni College Classes will be taught by HWS faculty on Saturday morning.
Even younger attendees are in for a fun-filled weekend. On Saturday evening, Just for Teens will pair teenaged guests with current HWS students for dinner and a movie while Kids' Camp will offer a variety of activities and snacks to younger children.
With excursions out on Seneca Lake aboard the William Scandling, athletic opportunities that include yoga and biking, as well as dinner and fireworks on the Quad - Reunion 2012 will certainly be a weekend to remember!
