As part of Reunion 2011 celebrations, legendary Hobart soccer coach Ray Demuth will return to campus on Saturday, June 4. To recognize his achievements as a coach and as head of the Statesmen program, a reception will be held in Demuth's honor at 4 p.m. in the Gilman Room located in Bristol Gymnasium.
During Saturday's reception, Demuth will reflect on his time and career at the Colleges. All are invited to join the celebration as soccer alumni gather to honor one of Hobart's greatest coaches.
Demuth was the first head coach of the Hobart soccer team, leading the team from 1953 to 1975. He is third in career wins among the Hobart soccer coaches, and one of his teams was recently honored for its season's record.
The 1960 Hobart soccer team went 6-1-1 under Demuth's coaching - the best season the team has ever recorded. In October, the team was named the 10th Hobart Team of Distinction, for which the members were recognized and honored prior to the Hobart-St. Lawrence game. Three members of Hobart's Athletics Hall of Fame were also members of the 1960 team.
Demuth's legacy also lives on through the Ray Demuth Award presented every year at the Block H Banquet, which acknowledges the achievements of Hobart athletes. The award, which has been given since 1964 and was renamed for Demuth in 1991, recognizes the Hobart soccer player who has demonstrated significant improvement, untiring perseverance, and the will to win during the season or over the course of his career.
