Hobart Launch Friday
Posted on Tuesday, May 10, 2011
Senior men are only days away from the Hobart Launch. On Friday, May 13, the Class of 2011 will continue the tradition that unites generations of Statesmen by welcoming them to the Alumni Association.
Started in 2004, the Launch is an annual Senior Week event during which each member of the graduating class is given a replica of the paddle used by the legendary Seneca Indian warrior Agayentah. The paddle, embossed with the Hobart seal and "Class of 2011," symbolizes Hobart's great heritage and represents the promise of a lifelong bond between Hobart College and its alumni.
After processing from the McDaniel lawn down to the Bozzuto Boathouse, the soon-to-be graduates will be welcomed by faculty, staff, alumni and the Director of Alumni Relations Jared Weeden '91.
The Class of 2011 will also be addressed by this year's alumnus speaker Trustee Tom Bozzuto '68, chair and chief executive officer of The Bozzuto Group. An English major while attending Hobart, Bozzuto was a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity, Little Theatre, the football team, Hobart Student Association and the Druids. He earned a master's degree in public administration at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship. Bozzuto now chairs the board's Buildings and Grounds Committee.
The Launch will also feature student speaker A.J. VanHeyst '11. Alumni House kindly asks that all alumni be assembled at the Boathouse dock no later than 4:15 p.m., as seniors will walk down the path to the dock at 4:30 p.m.
