Emily Pfeiffer '05 has been named Roz Steiner Art Gallery manager at Genesee Community College. Pfeiffer is also an adviser at the Dansville Campus Center and teaches art history.
As the new gallery manger, Pfeiffer will manage the exhibition calendar, work with artists and students to plan exhibits, facilitate art receptions, and work with faculty to integrate gallery experiences into coursework.
Prior to working at Genesee, Pfeiffer's interest in art history developed while in high school where she shadowed at the George Eastman House and became interested in museums. While at William Smith, Pfeiffer acquired an internship at the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) in the Curatorial Department. Upon graduation she was offered the position of curatorial assistant at MAG. During her time at MAG she worked on a grant for the Rochester Historical Society, helping to catalog the American Portrait Collection. She also attended graduate school at the University of Florida.
"I am really looking forward to increasing community involvement and awareness of the arts in the GLOW region and to allow our students and staff to see the quality of work being produced in our area," Pfeiffer said. "It's a wonderful opportunity to get students involved in the arts, not only for Fine Arts majors who will have the opportunity to show their work and be involved in the installation of exhibitions, but for students of other majors to be exposed to new experiences."
Pfeiffer earned her B.A. in art history, cum laude from William Smith and minored in sacred in cross cultural perspectives. She received The Martha Monser Justice Prize and was a Helen Heath Scholar.
