For the second year, John E. Bulman ‘80 has been named one of the "Top Ten Rhode Island Super Lawyers 2010" by New England Super Lawyers Magazine. A senior partner with Little, Medeiros, Kinder, Bulman & Whitney, PC in Providence, R.I., Bulman was selected by the team of Super Lawyers through a process involving statewide surveys, evaluations and peer reviews.
Bulman was also named the "Providence Best Lawyers Construction Lawyer of the Year" for 2011 by Best Lawyers, the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession. This honor is bestowed on a lawyer who has earned respect among his or her peers by demonstrating exceptional ability, professionalism and integrity.
Following graduation from Hobart, Bulman went on to the Georgetown University Law Center where he earned a J.D. cum laude. He has bar memberships in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and the Federal Court (U.S. District Court for the Districts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts; U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First and Eleventh Circuits). Bulman has 25 years of experience in construction law, commercial trial matters, business dispute resolution and neutral arbitration and mediation services. He has represented both private and public clients in jury and non-jury trials and in arbitration and mediation proceedings all across the country, arguing cases before the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the First and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. As a mediator, Bulman has successfully mediated more than 75 cases on a range of subjects including contract interference, partnership, municipal tax assessments and franchise disputes. As an arbitrator, Bulman has presided over many cases with claims up to $100 million.
For several years, Bulman has been recognized in multiple client guides as one of the region's leading construction and litigation practitioners. This recognition was confirmed by his 2006 election to the American College of Construction Lawyers and his awards of 2007 Outstanding Director for the American Arbitration Association. Additionally, he was honored from 2007 to 2010 by the Best Lawyers in America, and was recognized in 2007, 2008 and 2009 by Super lawyers. Furthermore, he was recommended from 2006 through 2009 for General Commercial Litigation by the USA Chambers. Bulman was recently re-elected to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the American Arbitration Association, and was also appointed to chair the Association's Committee on Practice and Management.
While at Hobart, Bulman majored in political science and studied abroad in Vienna.
