Prince '99 is Making It, Multitasking

Posted on Thursday, July 16, 2009

Olive Prince's latest work, OUT, premiered in a shared show with Charles O. Anderson/Dance Theater X at the nEW festival in Philadelphia from June 4 through 6. Prince, a 1999 graduate of William Smith College, was recently interviewed about her work by Streettalkin.com, Philadelphia's Internet video channel.

OUT is "A dynamic dance montage researching 'normality' in contrast to unspoken chatter and undisclosed fantasies," Prince explains before asking, "What do you present to the OUTside world?  What happens if I turned you inside/OUT?"

In addition to her work as a choreographer, Prince teaches dance at Drexel University and performs with Group Motion Multimedia Dance Company, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers, and Merian Soto.

Prince's dance and video works have earned numerous honors, including the New Edge Residency for Dance, American College Dance Festival/Dance Magazine Award Nominee for Outstanding Student Performer; the Temple University Emerging Choreographer Award; a project completion grant from the Graduate Board of Temple University; and a grant from the Experimental Television Center.

During her time at William Smith, Prince was an individual studies major; she participated in Koshare, and studied abroad in London, England. Prince completed her MFA in dance at Temple University in 2005.
