Java.net, a Web site devoted to the Java programming language recently published an article by Thaddeus Simons '09 and Joshua Davis '10. The article discusses a project the pair worked on over the summer as part of the Colleges' Summer Science Research Program. With David Eck, professor of mathematics and computer science, Simons and Davis worked on a project called 3D-XplorMath-J. The focus of the project, partially supported by the National Science Foundation, is a program to visualize mathematical objects and allow the user to interact with them, for educational and research purposes.
Simons is a double major in mathematics and computer science and has worked on two summer interships in the field of computer science. Davis is also a mathematics and computer science major and has completed coursework in computer graphics, in addition to other computer science classes.
The article, titled "Integrating GLPbuffer and Java Graphics2D," can be read at http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2008/10/30/integrating-glpbuffer-and-graphics2d.html
