On Thursday, Feb. 21, the Symposium on Genocide and Human Rights will host a workshop on empathetic documentary filmmaking at 3:30 p.m. in the Fisher Center.
In this hands-on workshop, co-director Joanna Heatwole and film participants Sandra Uwiringiyimana and Adele Kibasumba will draw on personal experiences during the creation of "A Song for my Sister," a film about a family of refugees rebuilding, recovering and struggling for justice. Participants will have an opportunity to practice compassionate approaches to the interview process toward authentic emotional connection with their own audiences.
