On Wednesday, Oct. 17, the William Smith Women's Collective will hold the annual Take Back the Night March, which starts for women only at 8 p.m. in front of Smith Hall where we will be handing out carnations and beginning the march.
Men are invited to join the march at the brick HWS sign at the corner of Hamilton and Pulteney streets, to continue on to Coxe Hall.
At 9:30 p.m. on the steps of Coxe Hall, there will be a Candlelight Vigil where both women and men are invited to speak out.
Take Back the Night is a women's march around campus and the Geneva Community to call for an end to rape and sexual assault and to demonstrate that women united can resist fear and violence. At each location where rape or sexual assault has been reported, we place a carnation in memory of and in solidarity with these survivors. The event allows community members to speak out against sexual violence and raise awareness as a preventive measure against future violence, so that we may all feel safe to walk the streets at night.
